Christopher Bronk Rice University

Dr. Christopher Bronk is the Baker Institute fellow in technology, society and public policy (TSPP). He previously served as a career diplomat with the United States Department of State on assignments both overseas and in Washington, D.C. His last assignment was in the Office of eDiplomacy, the department’s internal think tank on information technology, knowledge management, computer security and interagency collaboration. He also has experience in political affairs, counternarcotics, immigration and U.S.–Mexico border issues.

Gerardo Manuel Mejía Velázquez Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey

Dr. Gerardo Mejía received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1980 from Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP). In 1984 he received a M.E. degree in Process Systems from ITESM and in 1992 the Ph.D. degree from the Chemical Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. From 1980 to 1991 Prof. Mejia worked for different companies in Monterrey, San Luis Potosí, and Texas. He was a professor at UASLP and ITESM Campus San Luis Potosí from 1984 to 1987.

J. Nathaniel Holland Rice University

Dr. J. Nathaniel Holland received a B.S. degree in 1993 from Ferrum College in southwestern Virginia with majors in Biology and Environmental Science and minor studies in chemistry and philosophy. At Ferrum, he pursued his organismal interest in bats through studies of habitat choice by tropical bats in Costa Rica and of roosting and foraging behavior of an endangered species in Virginia. He then attended the University of Georgia where he obtained an M.S.

Jay Nunamaker The University of Arizona

Dr. Jay F. Nunamaker is Regents Professor and Director of the Center for Management of Information at the University of Arizona. He was a faculty member at Purdue University prior to founding the MIS department at the University of Arizona in 1974. Under his leadership for twenty years, the department has become known for its expertise in collaboration technology and the technical aspects of MIS.

Judith Gans The University of Arizona

Ms. Judith Gans is Program Manager for Immigration Policy at the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy at the University of Arizona. Her areas of expertise include U.S. immigration policy, economics, and Latin American development policy.

Gans has studied and written about various public policy topics related to immigration including citizenship and globalization, U.S.-Mexico immigration reform, immigration in a post-Sept. 11 environment, and historical perspectives on U.S. immigration policy.

William C. Martin Rice University

Dr. William Martin is the Harry and Hazel Chavanne Senior Fellow in Religion and Public Policy at the Baker Institute and the Chavanne Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Rice University. His areas of research and writing at the Baker Institute focus on two major sets of issues: 1) the political implications of religion, particularly fundamentalist religion, and 2) ways to reduce the harms associated with both drug abuse and drug policy.
